Why Should You Choose Laminate Flooring? Factors to consider:

laminate flooring installation
With laminate flooring, there are plenty of options for every style. For decades, laminated floors has served to be an affordable alternative to hardwood. You can have laminate flooring in the bathroom and there’s laminate flooring for kitchens as well.
There are many styles and color hues to choose from.

Most laminate flooring installation contractors present you with several options for you to choose from.
This floor type can cost about half the price of a wood floor, but just as with hardwoods, laminates have a range of varying qualities. Some options appear more realistic, and some aren’t as thick which can lead to them wearing down quickly over time.
Laminates can also vary in durability and resilience.

Since laminates can’t be refinished you might be wondering how you’ll get it to last longer. Fortunately, it comes with a wear layer -highly durable- that’s placed above the image layer. It’s engineered to uphold against foot traffic, scratches, sun fading, stains, and dents.

Most manufacturers assign an AC (abrasion criteria) rating to their products which specifies the usages they’re able to withstand. The higher the rating, the more stress the product can handle.
  • AC1- for moderate residential use (closets and bedrooms)
  • AC2- for general residential use (kitchens and living rooms)
  • AC3- for heavy residential use or moderate  commercial traffic
  • AC4- for general commercial traffic
  • AC5- for heavy commercial applications
Laminated floors can also be much easier to clean and maintain. Although, excessive water can warp laminated floors. So along with necessary sweeping and vacuuming, it has to be cleaned properly, usually with light water and a flat mop or a commercial laminate cleaner with an acetone-based solution.

Types Of Laminate Flooring

Being that laminate flooring has an image layer that can display various styles, there are many types of laminate flooring. There’s wood laminate, grey laminate flooring, oak laminate, etc.

Laminate floor companies and even independent laminate floor installers will have countless options for you to choose from.

Laminate Flooring Installation Types

Below you’ll find a few of the most common laminated floor types available on the market. Laminate flooring installation can vary depending on the style chosen.

All laminate floor installers don’t install laminate flooring the same, especially independent laminate floor installers.

Glueless click-lock

This is one of the most popular variations. It’s inexpensive and available near and far. It doesn't require glue or any form of adhesive, which it’s why it’s much easier to apply.

Pre-glued flooring

This is for those who prefer a peel-and-stick method. It comes with the adhesive connected and you won’t have to apply it separately.

Glued laminate flooring

This is an old-school method. With this method, you would apply the glue to the product before installing it down.

Laminate Flooring Care And Maintenance

You can sweep, vacuum, or dry-mop with a wood cleaner. Thankfully, this type of flooring doesn’t require as much maintenance as hardwood, so minor upkeep, and excessive water damage control.

How To Bring The Shine Back To Laminate Floors

With proper floor maintenance, cleaning, and care, you can restore your floor's shine, and have it looking like you had a new laminate flooring install. Here are a few tips to help bring back the shine
1.  Sweep and vacuum:
4.  Mop:
Using a microfiber mop or soft broom, sweep away the debris. Removing dust particles will get rid of the ashy appearance. Do this weekly.
2.  Use proper cleaner:
With cleaners that are formulated for laminated floors, you are less likely to warp your floor, unlike with other soap-based cleaners.
3.  Spray, don’t pour:
Laminated floors don’t react well to excessive water, and spritzing a thin layer of water/cleaning solution will do much better than cleaning with a mop bucket or excessive water.
When mopping, swipe the cleaner in the same direction as the grain. It’s ok for the floors to be damp, but not too wet. Mop in sections, instead of spraying the entire floor, clean sections at a time.
5.  Air dry:
Open the doors and windows for more air circulation and let the cleaner dry.
6. Buff dull spots:
Once the floor is dry, it should have a restored shine. If there are dull spots, use a microfiber cloth to buff out the spots until they shine.

Is Laminate Flooring Waterproof?

Not all laminate flooring is waterproof, however, there are waterproof laminate flooring options available on the market now.
Traditionally, laminates were known to swell easily from water absorption, but innovation has changed that.

Today, your laminated floor can have a waterproof seal, water-hight joints, as well as a water-resistant core.
If you’re someone who purchased laminates previously and don’t have this luxury you can simply search a phrase like “laminate flooring waterproof” and have a contractor like All Floors Center come and update your floors.

Solid hardwood vs laminate

Deciding on the right flooring can be a challenge. Many homeowners skip between solid hardwood and laminate. Their quite different yet similar all the while, let’s cover just how different and similar they are, shall we?

Most wood floor contractors offer both laminate and solid wood options.
Solid hardwood is 100% wood and has various species, that have different types of patterns, grains, and stains.
Laminate flooring is composed of wood byproducts conjoined underneath a protective transparent layer.
Both options have sides that interlock and attach to build the base of the floor.
  • Durability
Authentic wood is more prone to dents, and scratches, but you can have the wood resurfaced every now and again to restore its appearance. Laminate floors are more durable and can stand up to moisture and heat. Laminate can’t be resurfaced, but it’s easy to change boards and replace the damaged areas.
  • Cleaning
Hardwood floors can be swept, vacuumed, or dry-mopped with a wood cleaner. Since this flooring can be warped by water and heat, it’s best to clean up spills as fast as you can. Laminate floors require less maintenance, and simply sweeping or vacuuming can be sufficient.
  • Affordability
Laminate is one of the most affordable flooring options on the market.
  • Installation
Laminate flooring is simple to install, they’re great for DIY projects. Whereas a wood floor installation usually requires professional assistance.
